Best Bradenton & Sarasota Beach Walks for Locals

March 13, 2026

There’s something special about walking along the beaches of the Gulf Coast. The soft sand, warm breeze, and endless water views make even a short stroll feel like a reset button for your day. Whether you’re looking for peaceful shoreline views, great shelling spots, or a lively beach town atmosphere, these local favorites are a great place to start.

Boardwalk entrance to the ocean beach
Bean Point

At the very northern tip of Anna Maria Island, you’ll find one of the most peaceful beach walks in the region. Bean Point feels almost untouched, with wide stretches of white sand and incredible views where Tampa Bay meets the Gulf.

Getting there is part of the experience. Most visitors access the beach through sandy paths between homes near North Shore Drive. Public access points are located near Fern Street, Gladiolus Street, and North Bay Boulevard. From the Anna Maria City Pier area, it’s roughly a 16–20 minute walk to reach the point.

Once you arrive, the scenery is unforgettable. The shoreline curves beautifully around the island, and it’s common to spot dolphins offshore. Low tide is the best time for walking because it exposes sandbars and gives you more room along the water.

Local tip: There are no restrooms, lifeguards, or concessions here, so bring water and travel light. Parking is limited and strictly enforced, so make sure you only park in designated areas.

Siesta Key Beach

Siesta Key Beach is consistently ranked among the best beaches in the country, and once you walk across its famous quartz sand, it’s easy to see why. The sand stays cool underfoot and stretches across a wide shoreline that’s perfect for long, relaxing walks.

The main beach area offers about 1.6 miles of walkable shoreline, with calm water and plenty of space to spread out. Amenities here are excellent, including lifeguards, restrooms, shaded picnic areas, and a large free parking lot.

If you want to extend your walk, head toward Siesta Key Village. Ocean Boulevard is packed with shops, cafés, and casual restaurants, making it easy to turn a beach walk into a full afternoon outing. Nearby nature lovers can also explore trails at Oscar Scherer State Park or Myakka River State Park.

Local tip: Weekday mornings are the best time to visit if you want easy parking and fewer crowds. And if you happen to be there on a Sunday evening, don’t miss the famous sunset drum circle.

Lido Key Beach

If you want a quieter alternative to Siesta Key while still staying close to dining and shopping, Lido Key Beach is a great option. The beach itself feels calmer and less crowded, making it ideal for a peaceful shoreline stroll.

After your walk, you’re only minutes from St. Armands Circle, one of the area’s most popular shopping and dining destinations. Boutiques, art galleries, coffee shops, and ice cream stops are all within easy walking distance. For something a little different, nearby South Lido Park offers nature trails along the bay, shaded picnic areas, and kayak launches.

Local tip: Lido also has a dog-friendly section known as Lido Key Dog Beach, making it a favorite for pet owners who want to bring their four-legged walking partner along.

Turtle Beach

At the southern end of Siesta Key, Turtle Beach offers a totally different feel than the wide sands of Siesta Beach. The shoreline here is narrower, the water is deeper, and the crowds are much smaller. That makes it a great place for a quiet beach walk, especially if you enjoy searching for shells along the shoreline. It’s also a popular launch point for kayaking. Amenities include picnic areas, a boat launch, and even a nearby campground, making it a favorite for locals who want a more laid-back beach experience.

Local tip: Turtle nesting season runs from May through October. During that time, watch for marked nesting areas and be careful not to disturb them.

Coquina Beach

Located at the southern end of Anna Maria Island, Coquina Beach is a favorite for both beach walks and family beach days. The shoreline is wide and scenic, making it perfect for sunset strolls along the Gulf.

But the walking options don’t stop at the sand. Just across the road is the Coquina Baywalk at Leffis Key, a scenic one-mile boardwalk that winds through mangroves and tidal pools. It’s an easy walk with great opportunities for birdwatching and nature photography.

Coquina Beach also offers plenty of conveniences, including lifeguards, shaded picnic areas, restrooms, and the popular Coquina Beach Café. Free parking and a nearby trolley stop make getting there easy.

Local tip: Pets are not allowed on the beach itself, but they are welcome on the inland Baywalk trail.
